Young Aussie, 21, reveals he has spent $35,000 on tattoos outside shop in Broadway, Sydney

A young Aussie has revealed how much money he spent on mouth-watering tattoos.

Tattoo artist Cain Simmons asked his client James how much he paid for his tattoos outside Sydney’s Broadway Tattoo and Body Piercing shop.

Say anything from $30 to $35,000. It’s a lot, but you have to pay a lot to get good quality tattoos,” said the 21-year-old.

He also advised anyone considering getting a tattoo to “pay” rather than travel to Bali for a cheaper alternative.

“Instead of going to Bali and getting faded tattoos for two years, there’s no point. Pay the money, and that’s it,’ he said.

The inky Aussie explained that he has sleeve tattoos on both his arms, tattoos on his right leg, his back, his chest and even his neck.

James said it took about two years to get all the work done, and he plans to get more of his body tattooed.

“My arm sleeves, my chest, and my entire back, I completed in about a year and a half,” he said.

“Before that, I did my leg and all my other little tattoos — that was probably six months, not even. So two years to get all my tattoos. Just smash them, let them all do it and you’re sweet.

“I’m doing the inside of my chest with Cain today, and then I’m going to smash my left in and then I’m pretty much done.”

Simmons explained that the pair have become good friends.

“A year and a half ago, James came up to me with no tattoos on his upper body and said…I want to get tattooed,” Simmons wrote.

“I didn’t know at the time that he meant he wanted to be fully covered by the time he’s 25.

“Who would have thought we would have come this far, from principal to brotherhood.”

But Aussies were shocked by the high price the young man spent on his tattoos, with many claiming he should have saved the money instead.

“Waste of money man, that’s a house deposit,” one person commented.

Another claimed he would be “massively rich” if he invested the $35,000.

Others criticized the young man for criticizing the quality of tattoo work in Bali compared to Australia.

‘Bali has pretty good studios. Some are even Australian owned,” one wrote.

Lol my Bali hoes lasted 10 hours, my Aussie hoes lasted 3 days, Bali hoes look better! Both the same age and the Aussie sleeve are more faded,” another noted.

‘Bali tattoos and artists are much better than Aus. I got shin tattoo in bali with color about a year ago. No fading. I had my arm done in Aus and it faded,” added a third.

There are many factors that can affect the price of a tattoo, including the artist’s experience, size, complexity of the design, time to complete, and where on the body the tattoo will be placed.

On average, a small tattoo can cost anywhere from $100 to $300, while medium-sized tattoos start at around $700.

Those looking for a larger or more intricately designed tattoo can expect to spend around $1,500.

Labor costs also come into play, as junior tattoo artists cost around $85 per hour and level tattoo artists cost $130 per hour.

While professional and highly experienced tattoo artists charge around $190 and $250 per hour respectively.
