Blizzard has put the legacy legendary skins on sale, but there’s a catch

After rightly grumbling from longtime Overwatch players, Blizzard has slashed the prices of old cosmetics.
The hatching of Overwatch 2 saw Blizzard re-release skins and other cosmetics from the original game. The price for one of these older skins was quite high, giving you 1900 coins back – that’s USD 19 / GBP 16.34 / AUD 29.26 per cosmetic. Blizzard has lowered the price following fan complaints, but there’s a catch.
Legacy Legendary skins now cost 1000 coins, $10 / £8.60 / AUD$15.40, but only if you buy them with coins earned from the original game, so new players won’t be able to enjoy these price drops.
There are even more caveats to this deal, as the price drop only affects non-event legacy Legendary skins (try to say that quickly without stumbling). So you’ll have to pay the original price if you want to get your hands on some old Christmas sheets in time for the holidays.
A step forward
Since the release of Overwatch 2, the new store has proved controversial. While the skins and items from the previous game are available, buying them all will cost more than USD10,000. Many of these items were available for free in the original game. This change to legacy skins and credits is a much needed step in the right direction.
While it’s not the same as getting the skins for free like in the first game, it’s at least a bit more affordable. Not only does this show that Blizzard is listening to players’ recommendations and complaints, but it also rewards old players who have saved up their legacy credits – when Overwatch 2 launched, the money you earned in the original game was carried over to the sequel. , but it wasn’t worth as much as fresh coins. By offering legacy prices, it takes some of the sting out of buying cosmetics that used to be available for free.
Limited deal
Blizzard has not indicated that this is a limited time offer. Hopefully this will be a lasting change in the store. But legacy credits are unfortunately finite. Since you could only earn them with the original Overwatch, there’s no way to save legacy credits now that the game has been discontinued.
Your only other option to save Overwatch 2 credits and get the legacy skins for free is to earn coins by completing the weekly challenges. With a maximum of 60 coins per week, you can buy all legacy skins in [checks notes] 327 years.
This is not a huge step forward, it will not save the 35 million Overwatch 2 players (opens in new tab) a lot of money, but at least it makes the pain of the $19 skin prices a little less painful.
