Netflix announced Friday that it has renewed the crime drama for a fifth and final season.

Penn Badgley, who asked for fewer sex scenes in season four out of respect for his wife, will return as the charming but obsessive Joe Goldberg for the last time.

‘Goodbye… YOU. Joe Goldberg will return for the fifth and final season of YOU’, the streaming service posted on Instagram, sharing a video of the actor.

The same video was shared on Twitter, with the message: ‘Get ready for Joe Goldberg’s final chapter.’ You’ll be back for a fifth and final season in 2024!’

The series finale will be helmed by new showrunners.

Sera Gamble, who oversaw day-to-day operations for the first four seasons, is retiring.

Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will take over those duties on the series.

In the fourth season of You, Badgley’s character, Joe Goldberg, is given a taste of his own medicine by a vengeful serial killer while trying to keep a low profile under a new identity.

After killing ten people in the last three seasons of You, Goldberg is unable to escape his past once he catches the eye of a killer, dubbed “Eat the Rich Killer.”

Following his move to London and his new life as Professor Jonathan Moore, Joe wrestles with a new angst, which he ominously calls the “catalyst for a new path.”

The previous season ended with Joe killing Love, the mother of his child, before traveling to Europe in search of Marienne.

The thriller reached number 1 on Netflix’s internal charts with the second half of its fourth season.

Outgoing showrunner Sera Gamble shared the same video on her social media Friday, writing, “It’s rare and precious when a TV show tells its full story as expected.” It only happens with really massive support from viewers. Support: Outgoing showrunner Sera Gamble thanked fans on social media writing, “It’s rare and precious when a TV show tells its full story as expected. It only happens with genuinely massive support from viewers.

“Even in the early conversations with Penn, the idea was not to generate episodes forever; it’s feeling like we’ve told the whole story.

“And while I feel like tonally, we’re very different and we’re not trying to sell Joe as some serious hero type,” he explained. “This is a show that continues in the tradition of these one-man shows with a guy doing more and more bad things.

“The beautiful thing about it is that when her arc is complete, so is the show.”
