Two months after her husband died during their honeymoon due to a suspected gas leak, a woman has died.

Mary Somerville was found unconscious next to Jaime Carsi on May 6 in a holiday home in Mallorca.

The 39-year-old was taken to hospital in serious condition but died on July 2 at St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh.

Authorities in Mallorca believe a gas leak may have caused the death.

A message posted online by funeral directors D Chisholm and Sons said Ms Somerville passed away peacefully ‘eight weeks after a tragic accident in Mallorca’.

It further described her as “beloved wife of the late Jaime, adored daughter of Helena and David, dearly beloved sister to Misha and John” and a “dear sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many.”

Majorcan newspaper Ultima Hora previously reported that Ms Somerville and Mr Carsi, 40, had married two weeks before the incident.

It is understood that the pair were to go on a boat trip and the alarm was raised when they failed to show up.

Iain Stewart, executive director of the Edinburgh Interfaith Association, took to social media to pay tribute to his girlfriend, Mrs Somerville, who is originally from Abriachan, Inverness-shire.

Mr Stewart said: ‘It pains me to share this deeply heartbreaking news. My good friend and friend from the Edinburgh Interfaith Association Mary Somerville has sadly passed away.

Many people will know Mary for her role as a teacher in Art of Living. I will remember Mary for her warm and infectious personality and smile that would light up any room.”

Mr. Stewart urged people to pray for her family and loved ones. He added, “As people of faith, we are comforted by the belief that Mary will be reunited with her beloved Jaime.”

The couple had flown from their home in Edinburgh to spend time at a family home in the Cala Mesquida resort.

It is clear that a broken refrigerator in the property caused the gas leak.

Last night, the yoga and meditation teacher was described by friends as a “special soul” and “an inspiration.”

On social media, someone wrote: “Mary was a special soul, always happy, always smiling.”

Another said, “I’m so sorry to hear this. I have met Mary several times, she always radiated with such light, love and grace.

‘What an inspiration. May she have deep peace.’

Ms Somerville, a former employee of Lloyds Bank, was also a breathwork instructor with the non-profit Art of Living Foundation in Edinburgh.

She was a talented harpist, often playing at events organized by the Edinburgh Interfaith Association.

Her husband was an analyst for a Scottish asset management company.

Mr Carsi described himself online as being from Madrid.

But it is believed that he moved to the UK as a child and moved to Edinburgh from London about six years ago.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We supported the family of a British woman who was hospitalized in Mallorca.”

Spanish police have been contacted for comment.

Mrs Somerville’s funeral will be held at Inverness Crematorium.
