The death is being treated as suspicious and a Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed a crime scene has been established.

Both lanes of Yeppoon Road are closed while investigations continue. Police at the Norman Road intersection direct traffic.

Chief Inspector Darrin Shadlow revealed that multiple gunshots were heard before the triple-zero call was made.

“We’ve spoken to some people in that area who believe they heard gunshots. “It was just before the triple-0 call came in in that area and it was multiple shots,” Chief Inspector Shadlow said.

“The witnesses we spoke to believe they heard more than one vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.”

The body was found lying on the road, and not next to it, he clarified.

It remains on site in the presence of specialists from Brisbane.

“They’re looking for spent shell casings or live ammunition or something.” said Chief Inspector Shadlow.

‘I don’t believe it was a random attack. But of course the investigations will continue.

“However, I do not believe there is any cause for concern among the population,” he added.

The man has not been identified at this stage.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior in the area at the time or has information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police.
