Yellowstone star teases Kevin Costner could BOW OUT of hit show and addresses John Dutton’s fate

Yellowstone actor Dawn Olivieri teased that she expects Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, to leave the series in a shocking exit.

Olivieri, 42, who played Sarah Attwood in the show and Claire Dutton in prequel 1883, seemed to hint that creator and writer Taylor Sheridan is likely to deliver a shocking death to lead actor John Dutton in an exclusive chat with DailyMail.com.

This comes amid revelations that Costner has been asked to cut his shooting schedule in Yellowstone quite drastically — and he could be leaving the series to focus on his own movie project.

Speaking at Paleyfest in LA about rumors of Costner’s departure, she said, “Sometimes we have to recognize that nothing is forever and that impermanence is the only thing we can count on.” And such is life.

Olivieri thinks Sheridan will delight fans with Season 5 storylines: “I believe Taylor is writing the roller coaster. I can trust him to do that, because why else do you write?

“Do you write so that everyone feels happy and that they feel good about what you just did to them? “That’s why we don’t watch Taylor Sheridan stuff.

“We look at it because we go, “ooooh I can’t believe that just happened. Ooooh How could he do that?” Right?

“So however he writes this, it’s not going to be to everyone’s benefit at home to just snuggle up in bed at night and lay their head on the pillow and say, I’m happy. That’s how he did it. That will never be the case. That’s not why he is where he writes what he writes.’

Olivieri said only Sheridan knows how Costner’s time as Dutton will end – but she saw firsthand how Sheridan wields the ax against popular characters when he killed her in 1883.

Sheridan then rehired her to play the feisty Sarah Atwood, who is on a mission to bring down the Dutton family in Yellowstone.

Fans saw Atwood team up with adopted Dutton son Jamie in the mid-season finale to take down Costner’s Dutton, despite Jamie claiming he’s doing it for the ranch’s future and ensuring the family legacy.

Olivieri joked that once Sheridan sets his sights on killing off a character, there’s no turning back.

She said, “I already died once. I’ve tried. Everyone tried to change their mind. I heard the producers say afterwards, “Don’t kill her. She’s really great. We love her character. She’s a strong addition – let’s take her further on the train.”

“He was like, ‘No, I wrote her to die.’ “I succumbed to the death of that pen. It was the best thing for that story.”

Olivieri sees a strong future for the Yellowstone franchise, saying, “It will never stop. We go backwards, forwards, sideways (in time) and he touches something that touches everyone.

Why would you stop doing that? It’s making people feel. They communicate and come together, and it’s liberating.

‘The names will change. Hotness factors will shift and Matthew McConaugheys will appear. It will just be what it has to be.’

Yellowstone, which draws more than 10 million viewers, has been largely rejected by the Emmys for years – and has been called anti-woke.

Olivieri said of the snubs: ‘I think it’s a looking glass at how those decisions are made. It’s not based on what people like and what they want. It’s based on something else.

‘What is that? Don’t know. Is it political? Is it true that points of view are not shared by those in power? ‘We run into that a lot and we are dealing with a government and a political crisis that also reflects that.

So I don’t put much merit in that. “I think if you like something and it appeals to you, you go there, whatever it is. “You have to trust what’s inside you to make your decisions for your body, for your life, for your consciousness. That is it. ‘That’s nothing new. “That’s real talk.”

PaleyFest attendee and show star Mo Brings Plenty, who plays chef Thomas Rainwater’s driver Mo, believes Yellowstone will still be a hit even if Kevin Costner leaves. Plenty said, “Kevin is a huge part of the show and will hopefully continue to be for a very long time, and I think all the other cast members are holding their own.

“I think everyone can still carry the story. Everything Taylor has in his hands right now is phenomenal.”

Plenty added his hope that the Emmys will recognize the show at their September ceremony. “It should be (acknowledged). “Yellowstone should be given that fair chance as any other show.

“We come with so much cultural diversity, and especially in today’s day and age where there are all these conversations about diversity, equality, then we also have to keep in mind that to really end racism, you have to give life to cultural diversity. And so Yellowstone does.’

Costner, who recently won a Golden Globe for his performance as John Dutton on the show, is now directing and starring in his own multi-part Western epic, Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird. It has been picked up by Warner Bros Pictures and New Line Cinemas.

A new spin-off series starring Matthew McConaughey will continue regardless of whether Costner decides to stick with the original series or not, Paramount president and CEO Chris McCarthy has said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The nature or time frame of a McConaughey spin-off has not yet been revealed.

Costner and the main cast of the popular Paramount series pulled out of a convention at the last minute on April 1, further fueling speculation about the main star’s departure.

Fans of the show who paid $100 for a ticket to PaleyFest, expecting to see the star-studded cast Saturday night at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater, were disappointed.

On April 1, Josh Lucas, who plays a younger John Dutton, Plenty, Olivieri and Wendy Moniz (Lynette Perry) were the only cast members to show up.

They held a panel for fans, but didn’t share any details about the second half of Season 5 because nothing was filmed. The second half of the season was set to air this summer, but the cast says they haven’t been given a start date for filming.

‘I have no news to report. I just know Taylor writes and we know he’s a prolific writer and I’m excited to see it when the time comes,” Moniz told Yahoo Entertainment Saturday night on the red carpet.

Dailymail reached out to PaleyFest, Paramount and Sheridan for comment, but representatives did not immediately respond.

Fans expecting to see the stars at Saturday night’s event took to Twitter to express their frustrations over the ghosting.

As Deadline reports, the success of prequel series 1883 and 1923, as well as expectations for upcoming shows, has made the studio less dependent on the hit series as it was just two years ago.

1883, starring country music stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott, premiered in December 2021 and told the story of how the Duttons came to own the sprawling Dutton Ranch in Montana.

The following year followed 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. The show returns for a second and final season, detailing the family’s struggles during Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.

Sheridan would also be planning two other limited series documenting the family’s struggles to keep the ranch in the 1940s and 1960s.
