Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan purchases sprawling 179-acre Wyoming ranch for $4.95M

Yellowstone founder Taylor Sheridan has reportedly shelled out $4.95 million for a sprawling 470-acre ranch in Wyoming.

Rumor has it that the prolific writer recently purchased a piece of land known as Papa’s Creek Ranch.

His latest purchase has two trout streams and provides a spot for waterfowl hunting, he said. TMZ.

Despite the hefty price tag, there is little development on the site, giving the actor “a bit of a blank canvas to work with.”

The ranch is located 65 miles from Jackson Hole and Michael Keaton reportedly toured it last summer.

Latham Jenkins and Matt MacMillan were the brokers for the listing.

It is unclear whether Sheridan, who estimated net worth of $70 millionplans to move there or use the space for a new film project.

The showrunner also boasts two ranches in Texas: the $350 million, 660,000-acre Four Sixes Ranch, which he purchased with a group of investors in January 2022, and the 1,500-acre Bosque Ranch where much of Yellowstone and its spinoffs are filmed.

Last year, a Wall Street Journal report revealed that the star was charging Paramount as much as $50,000 a week to film Yellowstone on his own ranch in Texas.

In addition, he asks the network for $210,000 to train actors at a “Cowboy Camp” held on his own property and rents out herds of cattle for $25 a head.

Sheridan declined a request from the WSJ to be interviewed for the story.

During the “Cowboy Camps,” actors learn how to handle horses and how to realistically portray ranch life. WSJ reported that Paramount was charged $214,979.61 for the camp that led to season five, which lasted about a week.

About $33,000 of that was for catering alone. The use of his horses was also costly – Paramount was charged $2,000 per person.

Despite the hefty price tag, only minimal construction has been built on the land, giving the actor “a bit of a blank canvas to work with.”

In another example cited by the WSJ, a wrangler thousands of miles from the set also charged the production $3,000. The wrangler explained to the skeptical production office that she worked at one of Sheridan’s ranches, prepping his horses for filming.

Sheridan also uses his regular farrier to work with the horses.

According to the WSJ, it costs Paramount more than $500 million a year to produce Sheridan’s shows. That figure includes the first season of the Yellowstone spin-off 1923, which cost nearly $200 million.

Sheridan is working on a number of Yellowstone prequels and spin-off series, including 1883, 1923, 1944 and The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
