The New York Yankees nervously await the status of their star slugger and captain Aaron Judge after he appeared to get hurt trying to steal a base on Wednesday, though he returned to action soon after.

Judge landed awkwardly trying to slide into third while Anthony Rizzo was batting for the Yankees. He ultimately failed to get there in time and immediately got back up before running down the tunnel as he appeared to be holding onto his right arm.

No. 99 suffered the injury, which has yet to be diagnosed by the Yankees’ medical staff, in the second inning of Wednesday’s game against the Twins at Target Field.

Judge also appeared to have hurt himself on the day of his 31st birthday.

Fortunately for away fans, their star player returned to the team’s dugout just an inning after injuring himself. Cameras caught Judge playing his little finger as he watched from afar his teammates playing on the field, top of third.

MLB’s Bryan Hoch later tweetedJudge is back in the Yankees dugout and has reattached his elbow pad, which seems to indicate that he intends to take his batting. So… are you okay?’

Yankees writer Max Goodmanof NJ.com, also confirmed Judge’s return to the team’s dugout, though he added that last year’s MVP “went back to the clubhouse.”

“All I can tell you is he was still wearing a batting glove on his left hand, not his right hand, and the trainers are much more active than usual right now.”

Judge finally returned at bat in the fifth inning, with the score tied 11-3 in favor of the Yankees. The year-old hit a drive deep into left field and got into first place.

Judge now has three hits, three RBIs, a run and a walk in three at bats against Minnesota.

While fans are thrilled to see their star player back in action, many are also anxiously awaiting the Yankees’ postgame interview to learn more about Judge’s status.

On Twitter, several Yankees fans questioned Judge’s decision to try to steal a base in the form of rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe, at a time when the score was 5-0 in favor of New York.

So far this season, the 21-year-old has stolen eight bases in 24 games.
