Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman deems Sonya Massey shooting ‘unjustifiable’ in emotional post: ‘It’s beyond tiring’

Yankees player Marcus Stroman reacted to the heartbreaking death of Sonya Massey at the hands of an Illinois police officer.

The MLB star called the shooting “unjustified” after the unarmed Black woman was killed in her Springfield home earlier this month.

“You guys will be quiet about this…but loud and hateful when your team loses a game,” Stroman wrote on X.

The New York pitcher played the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Chicago with the Cubs.

The team’s headquarters is located just 320 kilometers from TKTK’s location

“We live in a sad society. My prayers and blessings to the family of Sonya Massey,” he added.

“The trauma that the black community continues to struggle with is frustrating and irreparable!”

Stroman also took to Instagram to express his disapproval of Deputy Sean Grayson, who killed the mother of two.

“Just another day in America. It’s beyond exhausting to see innocent black people murdered in cold blood. Being black in America is incredibly scary. Racism is rampant, yet you pretend not to notice,” he wrote.

Wake up and realize how f***ed up this is…no matter what color your skin is. It’s unfair and unjust. Disgusting to see some in society trying to justify these actions,” he continued.

“You are trash if you think this is okay. Shout out to Sonya Massey’s family. I can’t imagine what they are going through. Prayers and blessings to her family and the entire black community. We will rise and overcome as we always do.”

The two-time MLB All-Star concluded the emotional post with a black heart emoji.

Earlier this month, Massey was shot dead in her kitchen after she called police to investigate a burglar near her home.

Her family is now trying to draw attention to the shooting after body camera footage showed the harrowing circumstances that led to her death, as well as a leaked audio of an officer telling a dispatcher that Massey was “self-inflicted.”

In an interview with CBS News, Malachi Hill-Massey, 17, spoke lovingly about his mother.

“She was very smart and always helped everyone but herself. Just a ball of love, honestly, for me. She cooked the best food for me. I love her food, honestly,” he said.

“She’s just the most loving person ever. I don’t know. That’s the person that made me feel so loved.”

During a family news conference on Tuesday, Malachi told reporters he was unable to view the gruesome bodycam video.

“I have no words for this,” he told the crowd.

Meanwhile, Massey’s mother, Donna, reiterated the need for an investigation into the cover-up, stressing that the official story has changed.

“They said it was being investigated, then they said they told the doctors at the hospital she committed suicide, and then they changed it,” she said.

“They kept changing the story.”
