Entering the month of August, the New York Yankees were the hottest team in baseball and had only been shut out a total of six times all year.

Yesterday, a 4-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays marked the Pinstripes’ fifth shutout loss of the month of August alone, adding to a skid that sees them now in 5th across all of Major League Baseball.

The team is 3.5 games back of the best record in the American League, behind the Houston Astros, 4 games back of the cross-town rival New York Mets, and 10 games back on the Los Angeles Dodgers for best record in the league.

As September quickly approaches, Yankees manager Aaron Boone vented his anger and frustration out when speaking to reporters following Friday’s result.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone isn’t impressed with his team and its performance in August

‘We should be ticked off right now and we need to start playing better. Plain and simple,’ Boone said

‘You pour a lot into trying to shake hands at the end of the day, and we’ve been able to do that on balance on a really high clip this year. We’ve hit a rough patch and we’ve got to dig ourselves out.

‘We can sit here, and I can keep answering questions and talk about it…but we’ve got to go do it. And the good news is we’ve got all the pieces in that room to do that. I know that’s coming. I know it’s going to happen, but it really sucks going through it.’

The Yankees have a 4-13 record in the month of August, including a sweep by the St. Louis Cardinals and back-to-back shutouts against the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

They currently have lost back-to-back against the Blue Jays, a team that’s 2nd in the AL East.

Two games remain in this series to be played on Saturday and Sunday.

The Yankees are 4-13 so far in the month of August, with five shutout losses to their name
