Yankees general manager Brian Cashman insists he is “proud” of the team’s staff, claiming they are “pretty good” despite coming off their worst season in 31 years.

“I’m proud of our people and proud of our process,” Cashman said. “It doesn’t mean we’re firing on all cylinders, it doesn’t mean we’re the best in class.

“But I think we’re doing pretty well personally. I am proud of our people and I also look forward to ’24 being a better year than ’23.’

Cashman also told reporters that other teams have frequently tried to grab Yankees staffers and cited the New York Mets hiring former bench coach Carlos Mendoza as manager.

The Yankees struggled to stay above .500 while posting an 82-80 record and the team’s worst record since 1992 into the 2023 season.

Cashman also defended some team trades that haven’t worked out over the years, saying he “gets a kick out of” people calling the deals for Joey Gallo and Sonny Gray bad moves.

“Since Joey Gallo left us, who picked him up? Two playoff teams. Sonny Gray, he’s in contention for a Cy Young Award right now,” Cashman said.

Cashman also said he feels like the Yankees are “victims” for “trying to go for it.”

He also addressed those who criticized the team’s use of analytics, saying the Yankees rely on analytics far too much.

‘Nobody is trying their best, they’re just throwing bulls*** and accusing us of being analytically hounded. It is a lie to say that as directors we are guided by analytics,” says Cashman.

He went on to say that the Yankees have the smallest analytics staff in the American League East.
