The Bronx is hypothetically on fire after the Yankees lost their third straight game, setting the Toronto Blue Jays up to take a series sweep on Sunday.

Toronto scored four runs on two hits off Yankees starter Gerrit Cole in the 5th inning, finishing with a final score of 5-2.

As of Saturday afternoon, the loss puts the Yankees is 4 games back of the best record in the American League, behind the Houston Astros, 5 games back of the cross-town rival New York Mets, and 10.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for best record in the league.

The loss also allowed the Blue Jays, currently 2nd in the AL East, to gain further ground in the race for the division title and now only sit 7 games back.

Friday night saw the Yankees get shut out for the fifth time in the month of August alone, which aggravated manager Aaron Boone.

Yankees starter Gerrit Cole allowed four runs on two hits that made the difference Saturday

‘We should be ticked off right now and we need to start playing better. Plain and simple,’ Boone said after Friday’s shutout loss.

‘You pour a lot into trying to shake hands at the end of the day, and we’ve been able to do that on balance on a really high clip this year. We’ve hit a rough patch and we’ve got to dig ourselves out.

‘We can sit here, and I can keep answering questions and talk about it…but we’ve got to go do it. And the good news is we’ve got all the pieces in that room to do that. I know that’s coming. I know it’s going to happen, but it really sucks going through it.’

Fans of the Yankees desperate for the team’s first World Series crown since 2009 weren’t pleased with the result, taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations attacking the team, the manager, and in some instances – each other.
