Yankees fans slammed for ‘classless’ reaction to Ohtani injury

In the heat of the World Series, some New York Yankees fans celebrated an injury to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, a move that was labeled “classless” on social media.

Ohtani injured himself after sliding into second base during Game 2 of the Fall Classic in Los Angeles on Saturday, leaving the Japanese star on the ground and hurting his arm.

He was diagnosed with a subluxation (a partial dislocation) in his left shoulder and did not return to the game, which the Dodgers won 4-2.

A few Yankees fans watching back in The Bronx decided to celebrate Ohtani’s injury β€” with video from a bar showing some fans cheering.

One fan in particular decided to give the 30-year-old a middle finger as he lay on the ground in pain.

After being helped off the field, Ohtani underwent strength and movement tests, which came back positive.

The slugger then froze his shoulder and was able to leave Dodger Stadium without the use of a sleeve.

He underwent an MRI on Sunday morning, but the team has not provided any details.

According to a text message sent to ESPN’s Karl RavechDodgers manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani will play in Game 3 on Monday at Yankee Stadium.

Ahead of a practice on Sunday, Roberts said Ohtani still had to complete a workout of his own before confirming he will play, but says things are moving in that direction.

β€œThat’s my expectation when I talk to the training staff and get the reports,” Roberts said. β€œIf it’s a pain tolerance situation, I just don’t see him playing Game 3.”

In his first-ever postseason appearance, Ohtani is slashing .260/.403/.460 with three home runs and 10 RBIs β€” but he hasn’t stolen any bases after being caught twice.

This year, Ohtani became the first member of the 50/50 club after hitting 54 home runs and stealing 59 bases in the regular season.
