Yankees fans fume at manager Aaron Boone after New York blows 5-0 lead in ‘greatest meltdown in 40 years’

Yankees fans cried over the firing of Aaron Boone after their team dramatically collapsed in Game 5 of the World Series and the Los Angeles Dodgers secured the title in the Bronx.

Boone’s squad led 5–0 before a catastrophic fifth-inning meltdown gave LA its biggest comeback victory to clinch a World Series, winning 7–6.

Although the players had a litany of mistakes in the loss, fans pointed much of the blame to Boone’s late-game decisions in what Alex Rodriguez called “One of the biggest meltdowns I’ve seen in 40 years.”

“I knew it was trouble when they showed him laughing in the dugout at 5-0,” one fan wrote.

“Literally the worst manager in baseball history, you useless piece of shit,” exclaimed a second. “If they don’t fire him, they’ll have to cut his pay.”

Yankees fans were angry with manager Aaron Boone after he lost the World Series in five games

Trailing 0-5, the LA Dodgers completed the biggest comeback in a title victory

“There is absolutely no reason why Aaron Boone should remain the Yankees manager, a third said. “Absolutely terrible decisions, from not shooting guys to not using your best pitchers with the game on the line. Unbelievable.’

“If Aaron Boone doesn’t get fired before we wake up in the morning there will be riots,” a fourth wrote.

A fifth user wrote “The Aaron Boone Legacy,” over a depiction of the Yankees’ abuses Wednesday night.

The list included three errors, catcher interference, a balk and five unearned runs. It also noted that Gerrit Cole failed to cover first base on a Mookie Betts run, which marked the beginning of the end for the Bronx Bombers.

Fans have fired up Boone’s decision-making after the catastrophic crisis at Yankee Stadium

“I’m devastated,” Boone said at his post-game press conference. “I’m 51, I’ve put my life into it, so you chase that (the winning feeling) and when you get that close it’s heartbreaking.”

Boone joined the Yankees in 2018 and had a 603-429 record in his seven seasons. He also led the talented squad to the playoffs every season except 2023.

The angry fumble in Game 5 came after the Yankees torched the five boroughs by avoiding a sweep on Tuesday. After trailing 0-3 in the series, New York won Game 4 11-4.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, the Dodgers, who took care of the New York Mets in the NLCS, took care of business, winning their eighth title and second in the last five years.
