Yankees fan becomes meme for trying to snatch ball from Mookie Betts in World Series

Yankees fan Austin Capobianco became the butt of many jokes Tuesday night after he was ejected for trying to snatch a ball out of Mookie Betts’ hand during World Series Game 4.

Capobianco and his friend, John Peter, were both kicked out of Yankee Stadium after interfering with Betts – and were also banned for Game 5 – but that wasn’t their only punishment, as they were mercilessly mocked online.

Another fan hilariously compared the moment to “trying to get the tennis ball out of my dog’s mouth.”

Another X user had a different interpretation of the incident, as they wrote: ‘Trying to quietly open a bag of chips in a cinema.’

Others chose to mock Capobianco’s performance, with one saying, “What’s it like in 2024 and Yankees fans still look like extras on [1950’s sitcoms] The newlyweds.’

And at least one fan even invoked the legendary Tony Soprano, captioning a photo of the fictional gangster calling Capobianco a “brave Italian American Yankee Fan.”

The fan spoke ESPN’s Jesse Rogers after the match in a local bar, with the journalist describing him as a ‘beauty’.

Fans were not happy with that description.

β€œYes, celebrating this idiot seems like a great idea. Well done @espn,” one person wrote.

Another said: ‘I live in a bizarre world because in no sane world would anyone idolize this guy.’

In the end, Capobianco’s antics didn’t have much of an impact on the game, as the Yankees won comfortably 11–4.

They’ll try to keep the series alive in Game 5, even though he won’t be in attendance.
