Yankees are booed by their own fans in the Bronx in 8-3 loss to the Red Sox, seeing them fall two under .500
The New York Yankees’ losing streak extended to six games after an 8-3 loss to division rival the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
Fans in the Bronx didn’t hesitate to voice their displeasure as they once again showered their team with a chorus of boos in yet another defeat – this time to their closest rivals.
The anger was also seen on social media as fans clamored for the jobs of manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman.
Tonight’s loss to New York took their record to 60-62, dropping them even further to last place in the American League East.
Boone recently challenged his players to “fight and compete” in an unexpected way to save the season, but supporters on social media labeled them the “most cowardly bunch.”

In addition to the boos, fans called for manager Aaron Boone and GM Brian Cashman to be fired
“You can’t have another season of this. YOU CAN NOT. This low season will tell you a lot. It’s obvious that Cashman and Boone have to leave,” said one fan.
“After that there can be no question. Boone absolutely has to go. Cashman absolutely needs to go. The kids need to come up and get their feet wet to finish the season. And this low season needs a big reset. Enough is enough,” another angry Yankees fan posted.
Another called for Boone to take ownership of the Yankees’ shockingly bad run, rather than seemingly brush it off.
“I wish Boone took responsibility for how terrible the Yankees are this season,” they wrote. “I don’t know if he did it at some point this year, but when you make excuses like that, you lose respect. You were beaten by the better team. Lowering oneself to this kind of level looks bad.’
They were supported by another fan who posted, “This is the most cowardly group of individuals to ever come together. Boone will hand out milk and cookies after the game while telling everyone it’s right in front of us.”
Meanwhile, one shot at Boone’s managerial abilities, wondering why the former Yankees star was qualified for the job.
“I’m still waiting for the answer as to why Aaron Boone qualified as a major league manager. Please advise,’ they said.
Red Sox rookie Masataka Yoshida hit a three-run homer, four batters in the game and drove in four runs, and Brayan Bello pitched six innings to lead the Boston to victory.

Justin Turner singled in each of his first three at bats and had a pair of RBI hits. Alex Verdugo also had an RBI single to start Boston’s second of three runs that followed a fielding error by New York second baseman Gleyber Torres.
“Just to kick the throat right away was a good tone setter, especially to start the series,” Verdugo said.
Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer in the eighth off Garrett Whitlock, but the Yankees dropped their sixth straight—their longest slip since losing seven straight from September 4–10, 2021. New York also dropped two games under .500 drop this late in a season for the first time since it was 57-59 after an 11-6 victory over the Angels on August 31, 1995.
“It’s frustrating and disappointing,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “I get these questions all the time, but you have to keep moving forward and you have to do everything you can to not give in to that and do your best to solve it every day.”
The Red Sox took a 4-0 lead on 19 pitches to rookie Jhony Brito (4-6) when Yoshida switched to the right center seats.
Yoshida homered after the Yankees were charged with consecutive mound visits to go over boards because the PitchCom device didn’t work for the Red Sox, meaning the Yankees couldn’t use it.
Boston manager Alex Cora said the device didn’t work in the bullpen and there’s a chance it won’t work again on Saturday.
“Interesting timing on that and obviously not an ideal situation right before you get ready for the first pitch,” Boone said.

Boston led off with four straight hits and Turner preceded Yoshida’s 13th homer with an RBI single after Verdugo and Rafael Devers reached base.
Yoshida gave the Red Sox a 7-0 lead and drove in four points for the third time in his career. Devers added a runscoring single in the ninth.
“I think my swing is getting better, so I’m still working on it,” Yoshida said through a translator.
Bello (8-7) allowed one run and six hits to win for the third time in four starts. He defeated the Yankees for the second time this season by getting nine groundouts, including a pair of double plays.
“I felt a little relaxed,” Bello said through an interpreter. ‘With that lead – seven runs after two innings – it was of course very good. So my mindset completely changed, just try to attack batters and try the innings as fast as possible.”

Bello’s only semblance of trouble came in the fourth, when the Yankees had their first and third consecutive hits from Torres and Billy McKinney. On the next pitch, Bello eliminated Harrison Bader on a soft grounder.
After giving up Judge’s 23rd homer, Whitlock struckout Giancarlo Stanton to end the eighth. Brennan Bernardino allowed two hits to go into the ninth and Chris Martin completed Boston’s sixth win in seven games against the Yankees.
The Yankees avoided a shutout in three straight games for the first time since September 2016 when Anthony Volpe doubled and scored on DJ LeMahieu’s groundout in the third.
Brito gave up seven runs (six earned) and nine hits in 2 1/3 innings.
