Yakuza’s studio director says don’t even try to find out what the next game is about
During a December 26 broadcastYokoyama claimed that every fan theory and speculation he has seen online about Project Century is wrong. “We haven’t added any information that would allow people to guess,” he said, only confirming that Project Century is an action-adventure game, like previous Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio properties.
Project Century’s first reveal indicates that the game will be set in 1915, and that the as-yet unnamed protagonist will wield a variety of deadly weapons in addition to the usual fistfights, and perhaps even woo a woman or two in battle . According to Machine WestSome Like a Dragon fans have speculated that the man in the teaser is a young Makoto Tojo, the founder of the Tojo Clan featured in the studio’s modern Yakuza games, and that rapper Snoop Dogg may be involved , but we can probably say those theories are on ice thanks to Yokoyama’s statements.
Two days prior to the debut of Project Century, Sega two trademarks registered related to the property, one for the name of the company on the back of the main character’s cloak – Yashima Boueki Kaisha, or roughly Japan Trade Company – and another for the logo. After Project Century was unveiled, one Redditor commented that the rest of the text on the man’s clothing – “No matter how far we are, we have no limits, we are as fast as lightning” – is written in modern Japanese, and not in the style you would expect from the time period in which the game is set.
Project Century currently has no official release date or platforms.
