According to Down Detector, the problems first started yesterday afternoon and are continuing into this morning. At 07:00 BST, approximately 2,000 issues had been registered
Commentators have turned to X, formerly Twitter, to criticize Yahoo’s response to the outage, claiming it wasn’t fixed quickly enough
The problem started last night when the app crashed for thousands of people affected by an unknown bug.
Of those who reported problems with Yahoo Mail, 77 percent said the problem was with the app, while 13 percent said it was a problem with logging in.
The remaining 10 percent said they had server connection issues.
However, Yahoo says customers should regain access to their accounts during the day.
Down Detector reports have already fallen after peaking at 8,000 at 2pm BST on Tuesday.
But with the free email service remaining a popular option for an estimated 225 million monthly users, the outage has caused widespread frustration.
Several annoyed users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the outage.
‘Yahoomail STILL NOT WORKING waiting for HOSPITAL RESULTS AND APPOINTMENTS. It’s been 24 HOURS NOW and yes I tried clearing the cache but still NOTHING won’t even open,” one user shared.
Another said: ‘Any chance we can get our emails @YahooCare what’s going on??’
Meanwhile, one frustrated commenter wrote: ‘I haven’t been able to access my email since about 2pm GMT UK. I know you’re trying to solve the problem, but it’s not good enough! When will it be resolved??’
Several Yahoo Mail users have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to express their frustration and complain that they have not been able to access their emails
If you’re having trouble with Yahoo Mail, luckily there’s a solution.
Yahoo Customer Care suggests that the quickest way to resolve the issue is to uninstall and reinstall the app.
However, in a post on .’
This means that if your account information is not saved to memory, you will no longer be able to access your account upon reinstallation.
This can cause users to be permanently locked out of their email accounts.
A number of social media users have already reported that this has happened to them.
One commenter responded to the suggestion, writing, “Doesn’t work. My pw (password) is not working and the app now says there are no recovery options.’
“In total I spent over four hours on the phone,” another user wrote.
‘I was asked by the guy on the phone why I am deleting my app because that is the reason it is no longer working. And he said I lost it.”
Some users have reported that uninstalling and reinstalling the app has left them unable to access their accounts
However, Yahoo has since posted an alternative solution that doesn’t require the installation.
To fix the problem as quickly as possible, all you need to do is clear the cache and data in the app, which should allow you to access your emails without having to log out.
To do this on an Android device, first open your smartphone and long press the app icon.
Click the info icon in the top right corner to open the app settings.
Then scroll down to the usage section and storage row and open it.
Clear the cache and clear data and then reopen the app.
In a statement on X, Yahoo Customer Care said a fix has been rolled out, but it could take up to 24 hours to reach customers. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app may provide a quicker solution, but if your account information is not saved you may lose access to your account
For Apple users, close a session of the Yahoo app and then open the settings on your iOS device.
Search for the Yahoo app and click on it. At the bottom of the list of options you will find a button labeled “Reset all accounts.”
Enable this and restart the app to resolve the issue. You may be asked to sign in again, but if your credentials are saved on your device, there should be no problem.
While some users have confirmed that this quick fix worked, others say that this method has not been effective.

One commenter wrote: ‘This isn’t working. I can’t even log into your website to receive emails like that.’
Another added: “Did that, didn’t work. Also can’t log in to the website, it’s not just the app that is the problem. I haven’t been able to access my email since 1pm UK time.’

This isn’t the first time Yahoo service outages have caused massive disruptions for users.
In 2020, Yahoo’s UK servers crashed for about two hours, blocking thousands of their accounts.
The ‘undiagnosed issues’ also left BT and Sky customers unable to access their accounts.
