Xuming Li is arrested after neighbor Umar Abdullah caught Florida chemistry student ‘injecting OPIOIDS into family’s home’ after complaining about noise

A chemistry PhD student has been caught on camera appearing to inject opioids into a family home after complaining they were making noise.

Neighbor from hell Xuming Li is said to have contaminated the Florida family’s door with so much “chemical” that it made their baby sick.

The recent University of Southern Florida graduate was caught on camera after the family planted a hidden lens in a houseplant outside their home.

Shocking footage shows him loading a syringe before crouching down and appearing to inject a clear substance under the door.

Umar Abdullah, who lives in the home in Tampa with his wife and infant daughter, said he was shocked by Li’s behavior because he seemed like a “regular guy.”

Umar Abdullah (pictured), who lives in the home in Tampa with his wife and infant daughter, said he was shocked by Li’s behavior because he seemed like a “regular guy.”

Abdullah moved into the apartment with his pregnant wife in June 2022 and they were warmly welcomed by the other residents in the building.

However, he soon began receiving text messages from his disgruntled downstairs neighbor, Li, complaining about losing sleep and hearing the toilet seat move.

After months of complaints, Abdullah said he, his wife and daughter began to feel nauseated and dizzy.

“I’m looking at my daughter,” Abdullah told WTLA. Her eyes were full of tears. She wasn’t crying, but her eyes were full of tears.’

The family was baffled by the cause of their mysterious illness until a friend came to visit and pointed out an “unpleasant” smell in their home, Abdullah said.

He began an investigation, starting by calling his air conditioning company, which found no problems.

Abdullah then called a plumber, thinking the smell was coming from his water heater, but that, too, was evident.

His landlord even replaced the heating and had his air ducts and vents cleaned, but the chemical smell remained.

Desperate to find out what was plaguing his childhood home, Abdullah even called the fire department, but their tests turned up nothing.

He became more and more determined to find the source of the smell. “I was sniffing like a dog,” he said.

The sniff test led him to his doorway, where he discovered a small crack in the corner.

Now only beginning to suspect that some form of tampering had taken place, Abdullah placed a hidden camera in a potted plant outside his door.

His daughter fell ill again, prompting Yi to watch the footage – and he was shocked by what he saw.

“We were shaking,” Abdullah told WFLA. “We can’t imagine him doing anything.”

He adjusted the camera angle from door level to eye level to capture what Li was doing in recent moments.

This time, his footage showed Yi appearing to take out a syringe, fill it with clear liquid, and inject it into the slit in Abdullah’s door frame.

The concerned father immediately took his family out of the house and called the police.

Tampa police arrested the doctoral student and charged him with several charges, including possession of a controlled hazardous substance and burglary.

A hazardous materials investigation found that a “liquid chemical” containing methadone and hydrocodone, opioid pain relievers, was present in their home.

Li graduated from the University of Southern Florida in the summer of 2023 as a PhD student in chemistry, the school told WFLA.

He was released on bail by the court and is expected to appear on December 5.

Li also faces a lawsuit from Abdullah for domestic violence and from the condo association for breach of contract.

His daughter has just celebrated her first birthday in the apartment, but after being emotionally scarred by the experience, Abdullah wants to move his family to a new home.
