Xilonen is a 5-star Geo Sword user who is part of the first phase of Banners in the 5.1 patch. She is introduced as part of the new region, Natlan. According to her official character description, she is a blacksmith who is “adept at finding a good balance between the heavy responsibilities of her work and a good life.” At first I thought this description was referring to her roller skating hobby, but her new character trailer also shows her partying. In it, she performs from behind a DJ booth fit for a club and raps as if it were a music video.
Beth Curry voices Xilonen in the English version of Genshin impact. The short, staccato rhythm of the song reminds me of a rap verse from a K-pop song or a song a Vtuber might sing. Viewers in the comments section compared Xilonen’s performance to the League of Legends girl group, K/DA. One person responded to the officer Genshin impact TikTok and said, “Just the K/DA vibe of this trailer made me fall in love with her even more.”
However, everyone was not enthusiastic about the trailer and some thought the concept was too modern for a fantasy game like Genshin. “If they are in (Honkai: Star Rail) or (Zenless Zone Zero) I wouldn’t have any complaints but I started playing genshin (sic) for the fantasy aspect and escapism so I really don’t like some of the recent designs,” user PlerryTheDingus said on TikTok.
Ultimately, it’s just a trailer that gives players another look at Xilonen before she appears as a playable character in the game. The theme of the trailer does not mean that Traveler and Paimon will visit the club in Natlan anytime soon. But hey! Maybe after all that whining, it wouldn’t hurt Primogems if the two danced and sat back a bit.
