Recent leaks suggest we’re less than a week away from Xiaomi’s next line of foldable phones. And the good news is that the Mix Fold 4, a potential competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, could be getting a surprise global release, according to a prominent leaker.
Xiaomi has yet to release a single foldable phone in the global market, but that could change soon, according to a report from the reliable Chinese manufacturer. Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter). They claim that the Mix Fold 4 will launch globally on July 12.
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Mix Fold 3 are only available in China, meaning most of us are limited to buying imported models. The latter, incidentally, is a powerful rival to the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 1TB of storage, and an 8.03-inch AMOLED foldable display.
But it looks like the Mix Fold 3 will take things up a notch with an even thinner design that’s just over 9mm thick when folded. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be 12.1mm thick when folded, or 5.6mm thick when folded, according to leaks from April.
Xiaomi is reportedly set to take on another Chinese phone maker, Honor, on July 12. The latter is expected to launch the Magic V3 RSR. Honor’s Magic line of foldable phones has been limited to China so far, and the V3 is likely to follow suit. Until this recent leak, we were expecting the Mix Fold 4 to follow the same path as the Magic phones and the Mi Mix 3.
Honor Magic V3 will be released on July 12th. Then Xiaomi MIX Fold4 will also be released, which is also the world’s narrowest foldable phone, only 9.xmm. It is worth waiting for the release of MIX Fold4 to the global market! You have a chance to buy it!July 3, 2024
The world’s thinnest foldable phone right now is the Magic V2 RSR, which is 9.9mm thick when folded and 4.7mm when open. Even the rumored Magic V3 RSR probably won’t get any thinner.
We look forward to seeing how Xiaomi has managed to create something thinner without compromising on quality and durability. While the Xiaomi Mix Fold phone isn’t on our list of the best foldable phones yet, that could change once it actually launches globally.
What else do we know?
Ice Universe isn’t the only leaker to reveal details about the Mix Fold 4 rumors. Evan Blass on his X (formerly Twitter) account has said it will include the following specifications:
- SnapDragon 8Gen 3 processor
- 50MP main camera
- Leica Summilux
- 5000mAh+
- Wireless charging
- IPX8
Xiaomi and other Chinese phone makers continue to innovate in this coveted market, even though the specs are strikingly similar to those of the previous version of the phone.
The Leica camera on the Xiaomi Ultra 14 is impressive, so hopefully the Mix Fold 4 continues that trend. Like the Ultra 14, the Fold 4 is expected to have a 50MP main camera, so it’s possible that the selfie camera could also come in at 20MP and have an f/2.3 aperture.
It turns out to be a very busy time of year for the foldable phone market. Not only has Honor kicked off its teaser campaign for the Magic V3 foldable phone, Samsung is also gearing up to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 at Galaxy Unpacked 2024 on July 10.
What started out as a niche phone format is showing increasing signs of becoming mainstream. With Xiaomi, Honor, and Samsung all continuing to invest in the space, hopefully prices will start to drop from their current lofty heights – and who knows, maybe it might even convince Apple to finally make a foldable iPhone.
