Xbox is already focused on ‘delivering the biggest technical leap you’ll ever see in a hardware generation’
Xbox President Sarah Bond has confirmed that the company is already looking to the next generation of hardware and aims to deliver βthe biggest technical leap forward you’ll ever see in a hardware generation.β
Bond spoke about this during the final episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, which aired today (February 15), and touched on the company’s future plans for Xbox. While she didn’t go into details, she teased that some hardware news will be shared “this holiday,” so it sounds like there’s plenty to be excited about by the end of the year.
βWe have some exciting things coming out in terms of hardware that we’ll be sharing this holiday, and we’ve also invested in the next-generation roadmap,β she said. βWhat we’re really focused on is delivering the biggest technical leap you’ll ever see in a hardware generation, making it better for players and better for creators and the visions they build.β
The podcast episode was packed with news for fans to parse, most notably confirmation that four Xbox games previously released as console exclusives are headed to other platforms in the future. This follows weeks of rumors that a wide range of Xbox games are in line for a multi-platform release.
To address this, Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer confirmed that no broader change to Xbox’s “fundamental exclusive strategy” is in the works. He also didn’t name the games directly, but hinted that two of them are “community-driven,” and the other two are “smaller games that were never really intended to be built as sort of platform exclusives.” It was also made clear that neither Starfield or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are included in this line-up.
It’s also currently unknown when these four games will be released, but Spencer stated that the teams working on them have “announced plans that aren’t too far away,” so fans will just have to keep an eye on this space.
