‘X’ removes Karnataka BJP’s animated clip on Muslim quota after EC production

Social media platform ‘X’ has removed an animated video shared by the BJP’s Karnataka unit relating to the row over reservation for the Muslim community following an Election Commission order.

The poll panel on Tuesday ordered the microblogging site to remove the video “immediately”.

In a letter to the chief officer of ‘X’, the EC took exception to the non-compliance of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka’s directive to the social media platform for removing the video.

EC officials said on Wednesday following the new directive for ‘X’ that it has removed the controversial video from its site.

The Karnataka Congress had filed a complaint with the state’s chief electoral officer, accusing the BJP of promoting enmity and hatred between the Muslim and SC/ST communities.

The complaint relates to the animated video shared by the Karnataka BJP, which contains caricatures of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The cartoon shows the leaders placing an egg marked ‘Muslim’ on a bird’s nest and after it hatches, Gandhi gives ‘money’ to the ‘Muslim’ hatchling, while others strive for it. The ‘Muslim’ kid grows up as a result and kicks out the three others – SC, ST and OBC – while Gandhi and Siddaramaiah laugh.
