X Factor winner looks very different 15 years after winning the ITV show as he announces new career move away from singing

Joe McElderry looks worlds away from his teenage X Factor heyday as he announces a new career move.

The 33-year-old singer won the singing show at the age of 18 in 2009, beating stiff competition from the likes of Stacey Solomon, Olly Murs, Rachel Adedeji and Jedward.

And now, fifteen years later, Joe looks unrecognizable on social media with curly hair and less of a baby face.

Last month, Joe announced that he started the That’s Ridiculous podcast with his grandmother Hilda.

In footage shared to Instagram, Joe can be seen chatting to his relative as they attempt to storm the podcast charts.

Joe still often shares updates of his life on social media for fans – uploading photos and videos from his concerts and acting gigs.

Joe starred on X Factor in 2009 when he was just 18 years old and beat Stacey and Olly to the crown.

The singer has been working hard to lose weight after sporting a fuller figure during an appearance on ITV show Lorraine in 2015.

Two years later, however, he sported an athletic physique when he took the stage shirtless during his performance of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The singer trained with former Miss Universe finalist Caroline Dixon and followed a strict diet.

He previously said in an interview with Fabulous magazine: “Most of the stuff we do is cutthroat, but in a strange way I really enjoy it.

‘I am a very active person and have done many charity bike rides.

“It’s a big part of my life and I think it’s a necessary part of my life for my endurance when I’m on stage.”

Joe also reminisced about his time on the show that made him famous.

He said: ‘Every time I see that clip I feel so old, I look so young!’

Joe’s debut single – a cover of Miley Cyrus’ The Climb – rose to number one in the UK charts immediately after his X Factor triumph.

The talent show star has a discography of five albums, all of which reached the top 20.
