X Factor star Rowetta has put fans at ease after revealing on Wednesday afternoon that she was in hospital for surgery for an unknown condition.

The 57-year-old Happy Mondays singer caused concern when she shared a photo from a hospital bed while wearing a dress prior to surgery.

But hours later, Rowetta assured her followers that the surgery had gone as planned, while sharing her hopes of performing again this weekend.

In the photo, Rowetta was wearing oxygen tubes and had a cannula on her hand as she recovered from surgery.

The singer thanked her fans for their support and wrote: “A huge thank you to everyone for the lovely messages.

“I don’t have theater anymore and everything went well. I’m not sure when I’ll get home, but Friday I’ll definitely be attending the Mondays in Sheffield (even if I have to move on). Thanks again for all the love.’

The post came hours after Rowetta revealed she would be heading to the cinema, sharing another photo of herself in the hospital gown.

She wrote, “Surgery day. Hopefully I’ll be all set to rock and roll with the boys on Friday! I’ll see you on the other side!’

Rowetta was inundated with messages of support from her followers, who wished her the best of luck ahead of the surgery.

Keith Lemon actor Leigh Francis was among those who messaged, writing, “Good luck.”

While Gail Porter wrote: ‘All the best. (heart emojis)’

Lisa Moorish said, “I hope you are well. I hope you get well soon.’

Rowetta first rose to prominence in the 1990s with the Happy Mondays, before getting a second rush to fame when she appeared on the X Factor.

The star was labeled ‘great but barking mad’ by Simon Cowell, before finishing the competition in fourth place.

Rowetta, who still performs with the Happy Mondays, toured with them in 2015 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches album.
