A man and a woman were allegedly held captive in an apartment for three days and tortured with a jet flame for an alleged drug debt.
Sean Froggatt, 52, and the woman were allegedly held against their will in a housing commission unit on Levett Street in Wyong, on the central coast of New South Wales, from Thursday until Saturday.
The unit was rented by hairdresser Bonnie Cullen, 33, and shared with her new boyfriend, Daniel Hasapis, 30.
Hasapis allegedly beat and tortured Mr. Froggatt over the next three days and allegedly used a jet flame on the man and woman.
Cullen was charged with felony concealment and is not alleged to have been involved in the death of Mr. Froggatt or the kidnapping of the woman.
Hasapis has been charged with murder and kidnapping with the couple set to face Wyong Local Court on Monday.
The unit was rented by hairdresser Bonnie Cullen (pictured), 33, and shared with her new boyfriend, Daniel Hasapis, 30.
Hasapis allegedly beat and tortured Mr. Froggatt over the next three days and allegedly used a jet flame on the man and woman.
The woman suffered “severe” burns to her chest and arms before managing to flee the unit and call police from a friend’s house on Saturday.
She told officers that she was concerned for her friend’s well-being when police stormed the apartment and found Mr. Froggart’s body in a bedroom.
Hasapis was arrested in the unit and his girlfriend Cullen was handcuffed while visiting a relative in Watanobbi.
Cullen had moved to the Central Coast three years ago and was renting the housing commission unit when he recently began a relationship with Hasapis.
Neighbors said they didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary when they saw the four people together on Australia Day. the daily telegraph informed.
“Walked past them that night, just said ‘Hi bro’ to Sean, but everything seemed fine… which is why I’m so shocked now that this has all come out,” said one.
‘Bonnie lived downstairs, Sean was upstairs…he used to visit her a bit, as buddies.’
The woman suffered burns to her chest and arms before managing to flee the unit and call police from a friend’s house on Saturday.
Another resident said that Froggatt had been living in the complex for the past 13 years.
His friend Kylie Terry described him as a cheerful and kind person.
“He wouldn’t hurt anyone…he had this beautiful hair, not a single gray hair,” she said.
Froggatt had been living with epilepsy and needed a caregiver.
NSW Police Superintendent Chad Gillies said the four people knew each other.
