WWE Hall of Famer hails Sid Eudy’s ‘undeniable’ impact on wrestling after his death: ‘He paved the way’

Tributes from wrestlers have been pouring in since Sid Eudy, also known as Sycho Sid and Sid Vicious, passed away at the age of 63.

Eudy’s son Gunnar posted on Facebook: ‘Dear Friends and Family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after a years-long battle with cancer. He was a man of strength, kindness and love, and his presence will be greatly missed.

“We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support.”

Among the wrestlers paying tribute were many former WWE champions and other personalities from the wrestling world.

“Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” tweeted WWE Hall-of-Famer Booker T.

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Sid Eudy,” wrote multiple WWF champion Shawn Michaels.

“An unforgettable presence, and it cannot be overstated how instrumental he was in creating “The Heartbreak Kid.” His work, legacy and influence will inspire our business for generations to come.”

WWE Hall-of-Famer Diamond Dallas Page wrote: ‘Wow, I’m so sorry to hear that Sid Eudy has passed away.

“Sid had such a presence. When Sid Vicious stepped through the curtain, you knew you were looking at someone special. He had everything and he looked as impressive as anyone who ever stepped into the squared circle.

“I had no idea he was battling cancer. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP brother.”

Former WWF Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero wrote: ‘So sad to hear that friend and wrestling superstar Sid Eudy (Sid Vicious & Sid Justice) has passed away from cancer at the age of 63.

“He was one of the first wrestlers I wrestled when I auditioned for WCW. What a great guy. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and his millions of fans.

“We lost one of the best today, my good friend Sid Vicious,” WWE Hall-of-Famer Stevie Ray wrote. “Sending my condolences and he will never be forgotten.”

“It’s sad to hear that Sid Eudy, aka Sid Vicious, has passed away. What a magnet!” wrote ring announcer Jim Ross.

At a towering 6’1″ tall, he built a memorable reputation as a six-time world champion, twice in the WWF and twice in the WCW.

The WWE’s official website writes that if Sid had not suffered a leg injury in 2001, “his success would likely have been comparable to the best in WWE history.”
