WWE ‘cancel former champion’s massive return’ just before RAW debut on Netflix to make room for The Undertaker’s appearance
WWE brought out all the stars for their debut show on Netflix, but Monday Night Raw might also have had their biggest female star of all time.
According to Bodyslam.netBecky Lynch was set to return to WWE after more than six months away, but the plan was canceled at the last minute.
The Man left WWE on June 1, 2024, when her contract expired and had her last match in May. Since then, she has taken on several projects, most recently in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2.
WWE brought back many stars for the debut show on Netflix, a deal that netted them $5 billion. The Rock, John Cena and Hulk Hogan were among the names to appear on the show, as well as the late addition of The Undertaker.
According to the report, The Deadman replaced Lynch in the plans late in the day.
Lynch would appear at the end of Ripley and Morgan, presumably setting up her WrestleMania plans with the winner.
But the company instead decided to run with The Undertaker’s moment alongside Ripley as the WWE Hall of Famer returned as the American Badass and celebrated with the newly crowned champion.
Bodyslam.net reports that Lynch will still return to WWE in the coming weeks and this does not change her direction heading into WrestleMania in Las Vegas in April – a direction that the report says will be “very clear.”
According to the report, this is when WWE favored a return for Becky Lynch
Lynch is widely regarded as the most popular and influential female star in WWE history
Lynch’s last match in WWE was a cage match for the title with Morgan on May 27, 2024. Morgan coincidentally lost the title to Ripley on the episode of RAW on which Lynch was scheduled to appear.
If these plans were in place, it would indicate that Lynch has signed a new deal with WWE and ended her sabbatical.
Lynch’s last match in WWE at the time of writing took place in a steel cage on RAW last May
If she returns in the coming weeks, it seems likely she will take part in the Royal Rumble on February 1.
WWE’s debut on Netflix received mixed reviews, with some fans feeling like they were doing their best to advertise to a new audience rather than putting on an actual show.
