Wrexham see club record for striker Luke Armstrong REJECTED by the EFL as Hollywood-backed League Two side failed to get documents before 11pm deadline

  • Wrexham thought they had met the EFL’s 11pm deadline to register a new signing
  • Luke Armstrong had agreed to join, but the paperwork was submitted too late, EFL says
  • It means Armstrong must now return to Harrogate Town pending an appeal

Wrexham’s club record for Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong has collapsed dramatically after paperwork was not submitted by Friday’s 11pm deadline.

In a move believed to be around £500,000, Armstrong had accepted a move to North Wales on Deadline Day following interest from MK Dons.

Armstrong went on strike last month in a bid to leave Harrogate but will now have to return after the EFL annulled his move to Wrexham.

“Luke Armstrong’s registration from Harrogate to Wrexham has been rejected because paperwork was not submitted by the necessary deadline,” an EFL spokesperson told Mail Sport.

It means Wrexham’s deadline day activities landed on Millwall defender George Evans and a loan transfer for young Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

“Wrexham AFC can confirm that terms have been agreed to sign Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong on Transfer Deadline Day, with paperwork submitted for his signing,” Wrexham’s statement read.

“Unfortunately, the required documentation and approval requests could not be completed in time and his registration has been rejected. As a result, Luke remains a Harrogate Town player.’

It added: ‘The Club would like to thank the player for choosing to join Wrexham earlier in the day and are disappointed that this cannot happen now (pending any appeal). No further comment will be made at this time.”
