Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd was on hand to film the moment Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s football dreams came true.
The Hollywood stars were in the stands as their club Wrexham were promoted to the English Football League after a 15-year absence.
Reynolds and McElhenney, who took over the team in 2021 for a reported $2.5 million and promised a rise in England’s football pyramid, were overcome with emotion as Wrexham clinched the National League title.
And celebrity guest and friend of Reynolds Rudd captured the moment when the squad’s fate was confirmed.
Both Reynolds and McElhenney breathed a sigh of relief as the final whistle blew after the 3-1 win over Boreham Wood.

The Hollywood A-listers then turned to each other and shared a strong and long hug in the stands.
Reynolds uploaded the footage to his Twitter page on Sunday, writing, “Rob and I kind of passed out at the moment, but somehow we’ll never forget it.”
Earlier in the day, Reynolds said on social media, “Everything I own smells like champagne, beer and grass. I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing.
“This city and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thanks, @wrexham_afc.’
Wrexham came from behind to beat Boreham Wood 3–1, sparking scenes of cheering at The Racecourse Ground.
Fans rushed onto the field to celebrate with their heroes, and it wasn’t long before Reynolds and co-owner McElhenney joined them.
“I’m not sure I can really process what happened tonight, I’m still a bit speechless,” Reynolds told British broadcaster BT Sport afterwards.
‘One thing that goes through my mind over and over is people say ‘Why Wrexham’ at the start.

As shown in the Disney+ ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary, the pair gained the support of the 98.6 per cent of the 2,000 fans who were part of the Wrexham Supporters Trust and were cleared to buy the club.
The Deadpool star even admitted that he was inspired to buy the team thanks to a dance routine performed by his business partner McElhenney on his “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” series.
McElhenney paid tribute to the fans who have long awaited a performance like this.
“We can hear how it feels for the city and that’s the most important thing for us. I think this is a moment of catharsis for them and celebration,” he added.
“For us, it has been the honor of a lifetime to be welcomed into their community and welcomed into this experience.”
