Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds is ‘fronting a massive £795M bid to buy the Ottawa Senators’

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds could buy ‘ANOTHER team with the Hollywood actor fronting a massive £795 million bid to buy ice hockey franchise the Ottawa Senators’ – just days after promotion to League Two

  • Reynolds is apparently leading a £795 million bid to buy the Ottawa Senators

Wrexham’s Hollywood co-owner Ryan Reynolds could take on another sports team after celebrating promotion with the former National League outfit.

The football team of Reynolds and fellow TV star Rob McElhenney recently earned promotion to League Two following Wrexham’s title triumph in the fifth tier of English football.

Having tasted sporting success in England, Canadian-born Reynolds is reportedly preparing to invest more money in another team, this time on the ice.

The 46-year-old and his Welsh club co-owner paid around £2million to buy the majority stake in Wrexham, but Reynolds is now embarking on a venture that will see him head a group submitting a £795million bid to buy National Hockey League’s, Ottawa Senators, according to the Ottawa sun.

The NHL squad finished sixth in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference and has been preparing for a new owner to take over management of the club since the death of Eugene Melnyk in March 2022.

Reynolds and the Remington Group are reportedly preparing a bid to buy the Ottawa Senators ice hockey team

Should Reynolds and the team of investors succeed in their ambitious plans to buy the franchise, it would mark the end of more than 20 years of family ownership with the Senators.

The Remington Group are the named investors behind the acquisition and apparently have plans to develop a new state-of-the-art stadium if their bid is successful.

That would entail huge amounts of further investment in Canada’s capital, as the current arena used by the team also hosts music concerts and other live performances.

Reynolds would be the recognizable face of the efforts to gain control of the Senators in addition to the real estate development group involved in the deal.

If accepted, their mega amount would be a record amount for the largest franchise deal in the sport.

The current largest acquisition for an NHL team is held by the Pittsburgh Penguins after they were bought just two years ago for £716.5 million.

The success of Wrexham’s Disney docu-series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has reportedly sparked interest in a similar television venture in Ottawa, should the new prospective owners complete their buyout.

If Reynolds can help lead the Senators to the NHL title, we can expect more emotional scenes following Wrexham’s recent victory.

When Reynolds and co-owner McElhenney won promotion to the football league for the first time in 15 years, they were full-time in tears in the stands and on the pitch.
