American actor and Welsh football club co-owner Rob McElhenney admits a draw between the US and Wales would ‘work well’ before both countries ‘crush England’ and then Iran in the World Cup group stage

American actor and co-owner of Welsh football team Wrexham Rob McElhenney has admitted he cannot support Wales against the USMNT, but admitted that a draw between the two countries would ‘work well’.

The US and Wales will play against each other in the group stage on Monday and will also face England and Iran in Qatar.

‘It’s a fair question. I don’t know if I can give you an honest answer,” McElhenney said.

‘I was born here. I think if I opposed the United States I would be torn apart.”

Most famous for his work on the show “It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia,” McElhenney was also born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the same state as USMNT Captain Christian Pulisic.

“However, I feel that a draw between Wales and the US would work very well,” he continued.

“Then we both banged the hell out of England. We both beat Iran and then we leave the stage.’

Going through from the group stage would be a welcome achievement for both Wales and the US.

There may even be more pressure on the US after failing to qualify for the last World Cup and being one of the hosts of the next World Cup.

The USA play England on November 25 before playing Iran four days later, while Wales play Iran on November 25 for a potentially decisive game against England on November 29.

McElhenney and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds took over Wrexham, the fifth tier of English football, in February 2021 after a $2.76 million deal.
