WrestleMania 39: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn DEFEAT The Usos in one of its greatest fairytale endings

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn finally made their career dreams come true with a historic main event victory to close out the first night of WrestleMania 39.

The Canadian pair challenged The Usos, the longest-reigning tag team champions in history at 622 days, in the main event, the first time they had defended the titles as a main event in 39 iterations of the event.

The match had a lot of action from the beginning. There was no slow build or crescendo to speak of – both teams were immediately involved.

After a hot tag from Owens, Zayn jumped over the top rope, did the ‘We the ones’ taunt before punching Uso, hoping to eliminate the champions with his own move.

He only earned a count of two for his troubles, and the Usos began to take control once again with a series of superkicks.

The champions began dissecting Zayn and punishing him for betraying The Bloodline, in their eyes.

This is a story that goes back nine months, but it really kicked off at the Royal Rumble, where Zayn hit Roman Reigns with a chair when ordered to attack his old friend, Owens.

Back in the main event of WrestleMania 39, Owens looked to help his friend and caught a double chokeslam through the announce table for his troubles. The babyfaced couple was in deep trouble when Zayn ate a 1D.

But then Zayn kicked him out. Jey Uso continued to assault Zayn and berate him for his betrayal and Owens was too damaged to help.

Zayn managed to push Jey into the corner and the comeback began. Two pop-up powerbombs from Owens, a Helluva Kick from Zayn and then a Stunner from Owens still weren’t enough to get the count of three.

Finally, Zayn caught the hot tag and landed three Helluva Kicks on Jey Uso to clinch the WWE Undisputed Tag Team titles.

After everything Zayn went through in The Bloodline, his cruel exile from him led him back to his best friend and to achieve what they only ever dreamed of. As poetic as he can get professional wrestling.
