The wreckage of a helicopter that went missing two days ago along with its pilot and his dog has been found.
Debris from the Robinson R-66 helicopter was found by NSW Water Police at Hawks Nest, on the state’s north coast, around midday on Saturday.
The helicopter’s pilot, Ed Kraft, and his dog are still missing after taking off from Cessnock en route to Wallis Island near Forster on Thursday morning.
Police are still searching for Ed Kraft (pictured) after the wreckage of the helicopter he flew in was found by authorities in Hawks Nest on Thursday
Mr Kraft, originally from Jindabyne, near the Snowy Mountains in the south of the state, is an experienced pilot.
Police have launched a large-scale land and sea rescue operation around Port Stephens with the help of the Marine Area Command.
A camera from the plane’s cockpit has also been located by police and handed over to investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Authorities launched a massive land and sea search for Mr. Kraft, calling in units from the Marine Area Command
Police hope the onboard camera will help investigators understand what happened before the helicopter crashed.
The pilot had radioed to an air control tower to confirm he was taking the coastal route and there are suspicions he may have encountered bad weather.
