A pizza chain in Dubai asked ChatGPT to create a topping combination tailored to the city’s taste buds, and it was a huge success.
Dodo Pizza, a restaurant and delivery chain popular in Dubai, used AI to “Chicken Shawarma AI Generated Pizza“and the city’s residents can’t get enough of it.
Talking to the BBCSpartak Arutyunyan, who is responsible for the menu development of Dodo Pizza Dubai, said: “We asked ChatGPT to create a recipe – the best pizza for Dubai. We launched it, it was a really big success and it is still on the menu.”
Arutyunyan wanted a pizza that represented Dubai’s multicultural demographic, so the pizza combines staple foods from around the world to appeal to the tastes of the locals. Topped with chicken shawarma, tahini sauce, paneer, onions, tomato sauce, mozzarella, parsley and Za’atar spices, there’s inspiration from the Middle East, India, Europe and more.
Arutyunyan says: “As a chef, I would never mix these ingredients on a pizza, but still the flavor mix was surprisingly good.”
We used to have Remy, now we have ChatGPT
This isn’t the first time Dodo Pizza has used AI on its pizza menu. The chain launched an AI flavor generator in its Dubai app earlier this year, capable of generating up to 30 million possible combinations. The pizza chain plans to expand the generator to more locations in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa by 2024.
That said, the success of the AI-generated pizza is a potential one-hit wonder, as other ChatGPT recipes, like strawberries with pasta or blueberries with cereal, likely tasted just as bad as they sound and thus didn’t make the cut.

While my Italian ancestors might have turned in their graves at the idea of hoisin sauce spaghetti that Food Mood dreamed up for me, the success of Dodo Pizza means that AI could be the sous chef you’ve been looking for.
