- A German track and field star dubbed the “world’s sexiest athlete” has taken part
- She finished second at the national indoor championships in the 400 meters
- She was defeated by a 17-year-old in the final, while also winning relay gold
A German track and field star dubbed the ‘sexiest athlete in the world’ finished second in the 400 meters at the national indoor championships in Leipzig last weekend.
With the Paris Olympics less than six months away, athletes want to peak at the right time and the indoor season is now well underway.
The women’s 400 meters took place in Germany on Sunday and was won by 17-year-old rising star Johanna Martin.
She took the win in 52.71 seconds and second place went to Alica Schmidt when she crossed the line in 52.95 seconds.
Described as the ‘sexiest athlete alive’ by Australian magazine Busted Coverage in 2017, 25-year-old Schmidt has become a big name in athletics thanks in part to her huge social media following.

Schmidt has a huge following on social media and has revealed that this is a major source of income for her
She posts regularly on Instagram and Tiktok and has previously revealed she earns just £600 competing for her country on the track
Last year she revealed she relies heavily on her Instagram and TikTok for her income, after claiming she earns just £600 competing for her country.
Schmidt has 5 million followers on Instagram and 2 million on TikTok.
She also opened up earlier this month about turning down a six-figure sponsorship deal because she wasn’t fully behind the brand, despite her modest salary for competing on the circuit.
However, her athletics career appears to be going from strength to strength as she collected a silver medal behind Martin.
Schmidt was also part of a SCC Berlin team that won the 4x200m relay at the national championships.
Looking back on her performances in Leipzig, Schmidt said: ‘I know what my competition can do. We are all in a very good mood and ultimately I am happy that things are moving forward. Also over the 400m.’

Schmidt traveled to the Tokyo Olympics three years ago as a substitute for the mixed relay, but did not get the chance to run.
However, she could be in line to compete on the sport’s biggest stage this summer, and didn’t hurt her chances at all with her performance at the National Indoor Championships.
Schmidt went viral last year when she challenged Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to a race after previously beating Borussia Dortmund and German defender Mats Hummels two years earlier.
Haaland is considered one of the fastest runners in the Premier League after clocking a top speed of more than 35km/h last season, but he is yet to accept Schmidt’s call-up.
