World Series 2024: Jimmy Kimmel and John Legend headline celebrities at Yankees versus Dodgers Game 1

  • The Yankees-Dodgers game is the most anticipated World Series in years

The Yankees and Dodgers kicked off the World Series on Friday night in Los Angeles, and a host of celebrities – including Jimmy Kimmel and John Legend – were on hand to watch Game 1 of the Fall Classic.

Kimmel was seen sitting next to Jim Gentleman and Cleto Escobedo III, and the late-night host smiled from his seat behind the Yankees dugout.

Also nearby were actors Billy Crudup and Jason Bateman, as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. Actor Will Arnett was also in attendance.

Singer John Legend was also seen in the stands with his children, while fellow artist Lil Wayne also took in the game.

In addition, country singer Brad Paisley started the evening by singing the national anthem, while ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Bryan Cranston also addressed the crowd prior to the game.

Also in attendance was Lakers legend Magic Johnson, who co-owns the team.

The series is expected to draw huge numbers, pitting perhaps MLB’s two most prominent franchises against each other.

The Dodgers advanced to the World Series after defeating the Mets in six games in the NLCS.

The Yankees, meanwhile, edged past the Guardians in just five games to reach the franchise’s first World Series since 2009.

The Dodgers have only been to the Fall Classic in 2020, when they defeated the Rays after a Covid-shortened regular season.

While Paisley and Cranston graced the Dodger Stadium field before the game, the home team also remembered late team legend Fernando Valenzuela prior to Game 1.

Valenzuela passed away earlier this week at the age of 63, just days before his beloved team returned to the World Series.

The Dodgers announced the news of his death late Tuesday night, without providing a cause of death.

Valenzuela’s grieving family gathered on the field after the team’s induction as the Dodgers paid tribute to their legend ahead of the World Series curtain call.
