Daniil Medvedev became the French Open’s first major casualty when the world No. 2 lost to Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild in five sets.

The Brazilian moved into a tight first set after a tiebreak, after which he lost a few set points in the second set.

The Russian leaned back in his seat with a grin before taking third and seemingly ending any thoughts of a first lap exit.

But the world No. 172 fought back to win the final two sets with an aesthetic series of shots that rallied the Parisian crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier.

It came in the stadium where Brazil won their last Grand Slam over Gustavo ‘Guga’ Kuerten in 1997 and Seyboth played Wild in front of the spectators, winning them between points.

He broke second seed Medvedev’s serve three times in the final set to take a famous win in four hours and 15 minutes.
