The world’s No. 1 women’s golfer Nelly Korda has withdrawn from next week’s Aramco Team Series event after revealing a freak injury.
Korda announced in a statement Friday morning that she was bitten by a dog over the weekend while in Seattle for the Women’s PGA Championship.
The 25-year-old missed the cut at the tournament – her second straight at a major event and third consecutive tournament.
The Olympic gold medalist’s last round was a round of nine over par 81 at the LPGA Championship last Friday. As a result, she once again failed to make it to the weekend due to her recent loss of form.
During that round, camera crews watched Korda wipe tears from her eyes in a heartbreaking moment.
Nelly Korda has withdrawn from an event in London next week due to a strange injury
The world number 1 is in a slump, missing the cut at three consecutive events, including two majors
Korda looked to bounce back from the LPGA with a trip across the ocean for the Aramco Series event at the Centurion Club, just outside London, next weekend.
However, her freak injury forced her to withdraw from the tournament – the third of five on the circuit – with less than a week to go.
“I regret to announce that I have to withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London,” Korda said on Instagram. “On Saturday in Seattle I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and make a full recovery.”
“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors and my fans for my absence,” Korda continued. “Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”
Korda was in top form earlier this year, winning five events in a row from late January to mid-April.
After finishing seventh at the Cognizant Founders Cup, Korda was back to her winning ways at the Mizuho Americas Open.
Since her victory in New Jersey in mid-May, Korda has played in three tournaments and missed the cut in each. Her opening round at the U.S. Women’s Open last month was a 10-over-par 80.

Korda still holds a significant lead over world number two golfer Lilia Vu, who is more than 158 points behind the 25-year-old American in the Rolex rankings.
Korda’s return to the sport could take place at one of the LPGA’s five majors, the Evian Championship, which takes place in France from July 11 to 14.
Korda’s mainstream status has only grown during her period of success. Last month, she became the first LPGA player to attend the infamous Met Gala.
The golfer wore a dress by the famous fashion house Oscar de la Renta. He chose a strapless mesh dress in nude with red poppy appliqués embroidered on it, matching the theme ‘The Garden of Time’.
