World-famous YouTuber IShowSpeed races AFL star and both men say they won – so who do YOU think finished first?
- YouTube star tours Australia
- Appeared at the GWS training
- The result was not what he expected
A bid to feature Australian footballers has backfired spectacularly on YouTube sensation IShowSpeed after he was beaten by an AFL star during a footrace.
IShowSpeed, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr., is a 19-year-old YouTuber and livestreamer from Ohio who is currently touring Australia.
With more than 33 million YouTube subscribers, he has built a huge following through gaming, daring stunts and challenges with famous athletes, such as racing Olympic champion Noah Lyles and jumping over a speeding Lamborghini.
After appearing at iconic Sydney locations including Taronga Zoo and Bondi Beach, he turned up at GWS pre-season training on Friday and wasn’t shy about getting involved.
For AFL and Giants fans in particular, the result was beyond doubt.
“Darcy Jones smoked it,” someone posted.
It was a tight finish between GWS star Darcy Jones and YouTube sensation IShowSpeed
The American speedster claimed victory, but everyone born in Australia who watched the video said the result went to Jones

“Not biased either, Darcy won,” another supporter agreed.
“Darcy lowkey burned him in that race,” one confident GWS fan posted.
“Darcy Jones is the GOAT,” another added.
However, the American was having none of it and emphatically claimed victory.
“I won, you lost,” he said as he high-fived GWS players.
Jones offered an olive branch, saying, “It was a draw.”
The two speedsters went to the video replay – a vision captured on a cell phone – but still couldn’t agree on the winner.
GWS players said Jones’ head was forward, while Speed correctly insisted that Olympic and World Athletics guidelines state that the first athlete whose torso reaches the nearest edge of the finish line is the winner.
However, the vision still appeared to show the crotch of Jones’ torso first.
The club itself has made the result ‘official’ and declared their speedster the winner over the American YouTube star.
Speed also became involved in training exercises and struggles, including being challenged by Callum Brown during GWS training
The session was even appreciated by former GWS players like Cooper Hamilton, who posted the above message
“There’s no denying that Darcy Jones is faster than Ishowspeed,” the club posted along with a view of the race.
To put Jones’ race into perspective, Speed only just lost his race against Noah Lyles, on which he had bet $100,000.
Former GWS player Cooper Hamilton also shared his views on Instagram of Speed doing wrestling exercises with Toby Bedford.
“Hahaha, this is crazy,” the cut Giants star posted.
“IShowSpeed, an exceptionally popular US streamer with over 33 million subscribers on YouTube, is currently being thrown around by Callum Brown during GWS training,” wrote another footy follower.
“This is the most GWS thing ever,” another added.
