World Cup: When England players will return to their clubs ahead of Premier League return

England’s World Cup stars will now turn their attention to the resumption of the Premier League after their painful defeat at the hands of France.
Unlike traditional summer World Cups, Gareth Southgate’s team doesn’t have much time to reset and get over their heartbreaking exit from the tournament.
The Premier League season resumes on Boxing Day, just over two weeks after the quarter-final defeat.
England missed out on the World Cup with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to France on Saturday.
Top-tier teams have different approaches to how long their stars can recover before returning to training.
Some will return this week, others will have a full week off, while one club has given all its World Cup stars a 10-day break after exiting the tournament.
Sportsmail takes a look at every Premier League club that had English players involved and reveals what their plans are before the busy festive calendar kicks off.

Arsenal
Bukayo Saka Y Aaron Ramsdale He is expected to rejoin Arsenal training at the end of the week, along with Brazil’s Gabriel Martinelli and Japan’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Gunners are currently in Dubai where they will play Serie A champions AC Milan on Tuesday.
With Arsenal playing Juventus at the Emirates in another friendly on Saturday, there doesn’t seem to be much point in Saka and Ramsdale making the trip to Dubai after flying home from Qatar.
So it’s likely they’ll have a few days off before the Arsenal squad head back to England, where they can then join their teammates from the club.

Currently, the Toffees won’t face anyone until their Boxing Day clash with Wolves, meaning the pair can easily return in time for the Premier League’s resumption.

james madison He did not play a single minute during the World Cup. The Leicester playmaker missed England’s opening games with an injury he sustained in the Foxes’ 2-0 win over West Ham last month and was not brought off the bench by Southgate in the round of 16.
It has not yet been confirmed when he will return to training, but it would not be a surprise to see him take a week off to ensure he is fully fit for his game with Newcastle on Boxing Day.
James Maddison did not play during the World Cup and has recently struggled with injury.
Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson both will have a week off after the start of the World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently on a mid-season break in Dubai and will take on AC Milan on Saturday.
During a press conference in Dubai, the Liverpool coach confirmed that Darwin Núñez will join the team on Wednesday. Klopp has given all players a week off after returning from the World Cup to ‘reset mind and body’.
Liverpool are back in the thick of things next week with a rocky Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City on Thursday.
It seems unlikely that the pair will feature in that match and be given more time before their Boxing Day clash with Aston Villa.

The Premier League champions are more affected than any of their rivals by when their English players can return to training.

They will be without part of their Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool on Thursday 22 December.
However, it gives them enough time to recover before their first Premier League game since the restart, which won’t be until December 28 against Leeds.
Man City players unlikely to return to action before playing Liverpool

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford everyone will have a week off to rest after their exit from the World Cup.
Maguire and Shaw started all of England’s games, while Rashford scored three goals, but was predominantly a substitute in Qatar.
It is doubtful that they will have enough training time to play the Carabao Cup with Burnley on December 21, and it is more likely that they will be first in contention to play Nottingham Forest on December 27.
Manchester United players will have a week off after the World Cup

Eddie Howe said last week in Saudi Arabia that his five World Cup players would be treated “on a case by case basis”.
However, that was before the five of them, including the one from England. Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope – were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage.
The expectation now is that they will all be given some time off this week, but will return to training ahead of the Carabao Cup tie with Bournemouth on December 21 and the trip to Leicester on Boxing Day.

tottenham
harry kane will be looking to quickly put his World Cup angst behind him before Tottenham’s return to action against Brentford on December 26.
The England captain, along with eric dierhe will have a week off before returning to the Spurs on Monday, December 19.
Spurs will play a friendly against Nice two days later, a game in which either player is unlikely to get any serious playing time.
Kane has said it will take ‘some time’ to recover from missing a late penalty in England’s crushing 2-1 defeat to France in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday, and he will want to put the experience behind him with a strong restart the campaign.
Richarlison will also return to training next Monday after Brazil was knocked out of the quarterfinals on penalties.

Declan Rice will have one of the longest breaks of any player according to the Standard.
Rice is said to return to training in the middle of next week after starting all five of England’s games in Qatar.
The long layoff stems from West Ham giving all of their World Cup players ten days off after they dropped out of the tournament.
Rice, along with Brazilian star Lucas Paquetá, will rejoin David Moyes’ squad next week in the run-up to Christmas and, provided the pair return in good health, the club are hopeful of having both in the fight to face Arsenal, leaders of the Premier League, on Boxing Day.

It would feel wrong not to mention one of the stars of England’s World Cup squad: Jude Bellinghameven if he doesn’t play his club’s football in the Premier League.
The teenager has a nice long break to look forward to as there is more than a month to go until the Bundesliga season resumes.
Borussia Dortmund’s league campaign resumes on January 22 against Augsburg.
Bellingham can enjoy his extended break as Dortmund will not return to training until January 2 according to the Bundesliga official website. They will then have a warm weather training camp in Marbella between the 6th and 14th of January.
