Qatar was given a two-month lead on hosting the World Cup as they were beaten 3-0 by the Croatian under-23 in a friendly match on Tuesday.
Early goals from Tonio Teklic and Josip Mitrovic gave the young Croats the lead and the victory was sealed three minutes before the end by Sandro Kulenovic.
The Croatian side consisted mainly of domestic players, and free of senior stars and players under the age of 21. But they could still comfortably see Qatar, led by Felix Sanchez.

The hosts of the 2022 World Cup were due to play against Bolivia in a friendly in Austria, but their opponents canceled, so the makeshift Croatian side was rallied to finish the 90 minutes instead.
Qatar has more games scheduled this week against Canada on Friday and Chile next Tuesday. These appear to be the country’s last games before their World Cup campaign kicks off in November.
Qatar opens the World Cup against Ecuador on November 20, before also facing Senegal and the Netherlands as part of Group A of the tournament.
It’s tradition for the World Cup hosts to be placed in the top spots for the tournament – but they’ll have to avoid scoring lines like this if they don’t want to be humiliated on home soil.
