Almost 80 PERCENT of the 69,000 fans who watched the World Cup semi-final between Morocco and France tonight are fans of the Atlas Lions, as they became the first African country to play in the quarter-finals.

A grand total of 55,000 Morocco fans will attend the World Cup semifinal in Qatar, according to reports in France.

The Atlas Lions take on France at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor in front of a sellout crowd on Wednesday night with a place in the final on the line.

And as reported by RMC sport55,000 of the 69,000 inside the stadium will support Morocco, almost 80 percent of the total supporters.

According to the outlet, that figure includes those in the North African diaspora, for example, people of Moroccan descent living in France, and those who have arrived in the Middle East as the tournament progresses.

Either way, the match will be a historic occasion, with Morocco the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

And Walid Regragui’s team, the World Cup surprise package, appears to have the backing of the vast majority of attendees, with several additional flights from Morocco to Doha on Wednesday to make travel easier.

but was informed by AFP that several flights were canceled due to restrictions imposed by the Qatari authorities, which would have affected 2,100 fans.

Morocco have stunned several top teams en route to the semi-final, beating world number 2 Belgium in the group stage, Spain on penalties in the round of 16 and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the quarterfinals.

Regragui’s men are heavy underdogs again against Les Bleus, but will hope to shock the favorites once again.
