Now, outraged fans have taken to Twitter to demand officials ban future matches from being broadcast live on the commercial television network.
The Three Lions have an appalling record when their matches are broadcast live on ITV. Since 1998, England have won just three of their 17 World Cup matches broadcast on the network, compared to a staggering 12 of 16 on the BBC..

England suffered another World Cup heartbreak today when captain Harry Kane missed the penalty kick and saw the Three Lions beaten 2-1 by France in their quarter-final tie.
The defeat has sparked outrage online, with many fans arguing that the Three Lions could have been victorious if the match had been broadcast on the BBC.
“Anyway, the ITV curse continues,” Stuart Norris tweeted.
‘The curse of ITV strikes again. In future, can we let the BBC broadcast the games?’ repeated another fan.
Dean Ayass noted: “All I’m saying is when @Lionesses won Euro 2022, every game they played was broadcast live on the BBC.”
‘The curse of ITV strikes again. I would love to have major tournaments in top-tier sports to prevent those guys from ever having it again,” added another England supporter.
Twitter user @KennyB36 used ITV as a scapegoat and blamed tonight’s loss on Captain Harry Kane, saying: “Harry, it’s not your fault, it’s the curse of ITV.”
“I blame #ITVFootball for losing that game,” added Tom Jebb. ‘The game should have been played on the BBC! The curse of ITV football continues…’
