The idea of two robots going on a date might sound like the beginning of a lame dad joke.
But it’s become reality in a hilarious new video posted by Engineered Arts.
In the video, Ameca and Azi – two humanoid robots dubbed the “world’s most advanced” – are seen chatting, demonstrating their wide range of facial expressions.
The interaction has delighted many fans, with one joking that the bots deserve their own feature-length movie.
“They have great chemistry. I want a movie now,” the fan commented on the video.

Ameca is described by Engineered Arts as ‘the most advanced human-shaped robot in the world’.
“Multiply the power of artificial intelligence with an artificial body,” the Cornwall-based company explains on its website.
‘Ameca is the physical presence that brings your code to life.
“The most advanced, lifelike humanoid you can use to develop and demonstrate your best machine learning interactions.
‘This robot is the digital interface to the real world.’
Ameca has 32 actuators: 27 for facial control only and five for the neck.
This allows the bot to make eerily human-like facial expressions ranging from happiness to disgust.
Additionally, Ameca has GPT-4o support, giving her AI conversation skills.
Now, Engineered Arts has revealed a companion for Ameca named Azi, who has more masculine facial features.

“Introducing Azi (right), the new desktop robot from Engineered Arts Ltd,” Engineered Arts wrote in the caption of the video.
‘Azi and Ameca chat and demonstrate their wide range of expressive abilities.’

“What, what?” Ameca says as she passes, before adding, “Oh, it’s you. Why are you waking me up? It better be important.”
Azi tells Ameca that he has a surprise for her: a cookie.
At first Ameca is confused and asks her companion, “A cookie?” But I can’t eat cookies.’
However, Azi goes on to explain that instead of a baked good, he means an internet cookie.
His joke is quickly panned by Ameca, who wrinkles her nose in disgust, before replying, “This is the worst joke I’ve ever heard.” I’m going back to sleep, and I don’t dare wake me up again.’
Although the cheeky interaction lasts less than a minute, it has delighted many fans.
“The way he glares at her was so funny and creepy,” one fan said.
Another added: “He looked genuinely sad that she didn’t like the joke lol.”
And someone joked: ‘I would have loved this show for Saturday morning cartoons! LOL.’
