Woolworths shoppers shocked over expensive mistake on roast chicken

Woolworths shoppers were stunned to see a normally affordable fan favorite selling for hundreds of dollars.

The supermarket giant has priced a whole country-style roast chicken at an eye-watering $240 and then put it up for sale on the warm counter of Adelaide’s Hilton Plaza store.

A photo of the overcooked price was shared on Instagram with the caption: “Inflation has hit Hilton Woolies bachelor handbag.”

A fried chicken usually costs $12, meaning the chicken in question saw a 1,900 percent increase.

A woman shopping at the same store suspected it was an innocent mistake by interns.

“I believe they have new employees training at the deli,” she said.

Australians love slang, but those who aren’t up to date with the latest buzzwords can now keep up to date with a range of new Gen-Z favorites added to the dictionary.

The recently released ninth edition of the Macquarie Dictionary includes words such as situationship, cozzie, menty-b, bachelor’s handbag, goblin mode, Barbiecore, spicy cough and the ick.

‘Yesterday I asked for 250 grams of ham and got 560 grams. Ham for everyone! We love ham!’

One person saw the expensive poultry as a grim portent of things to come.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised at how high inflation is these days; soon we will become a banana republic,” she said.

But most Australians saw the funny side of the crazy price.

One woman completely agreed with the price, given the high value she attaches to fried chickens.

‘Worth the effort. Best BBQ chicken around.’

Some thought the chicken must have been a talented bird.

“Maybe he won first prize at the Royal Show?” one woman wondered.

Several men thought it was a meal from a designer label.

“That’s a Dolce & Gabbana chicken,” someone said.

Another thought it looked more like a Louis Vuitton bird.

“Is it too late to claim that he lays golden eggs?” someone asked.

The $240 price tag for the roasted chook wasn’t even the most expensive mistake we’ve seen in Australian supermarkets this year.

A Perth woman paid a whopping $336.66 for fried chicken at a Woolworths store in Innaloo after a row at the checkout.

In a video on TikTok, the woman known as Karen stands baffled behind the high bill as she shows off the price of the product printed on her receipt.

“Woolworths charged me $336.66 for a roast chicken,” she said.

“$336 for a fried chicken!”

The camera then zooms in on the amount Karen paid for the food.

She then points to the fried chicken in a bag that she bought at the store and that sits on the counter at her home.

‘This chicken! I know it’s RSPCA,” she said. “Did they hang it at the damn Crown Towers before they killed the bird?”
