A disturbing trend on social media is prompting teens to attack unsuspecting victims in public while others film the brutal assault.

Videos of the attacks involving teenagers from Port Augusta, South Australia, have surfaced in Facebook groups where members are encouraged to continue the violence and upload more images.

In one of the videos, a woman shopping at a Woolworths store is savagely beaten by a teenage girl while her friend records and goads her on.

A new trend on social media is prompting teenagers in Port Augusta, South Australia, to beat up random civilians in images to be posted to Facebook groups.

In the clip, the girls can be seen casually walking towards the supermarket before deciding on their target: an unsuspecting woman who pushes a shopping cart and walks in front of the girls.

“Hit the fucking girl, hit her,” the behind-the-camera girl tells her friend.

The vicious beating then begins, as the teen grabs the woman’s hair and brings her to her knees.

She is then kicked and hit on the head multiple times in front of other shoppers, including children, who scream in horror.

The woman was left with cuts and bruises on her head, but says the psychological effects have been the most painful.

“I can’t go to stores like Woolies or Coles or Big W without someone with me because I’m too scared,” the victim, Jessica Burk, told 9News.

Those attackers will chase me. I know they will.

The same attacker appears to be the main attacker in several other videos, assaulting other teenagers in parking lots and on the street.

One of the victims, Jessica Burke, is now too afraid to shop alone after she was kicked and punched in the head multiple times (pictured) while shopping at Woolworths.

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said anyone who is inciting the behavior can also be charged, not just the attacker.

“It is a crime to incite a crime,” he warned.

“If people are actively involved in an activity that encourages other people to commit a crime, then they may be responsible for that.”

However, some Port Augusta residents claim that even though the teens are being charged, they are later released on bail.

“These days, it’s just a slap on the wrist and sends it on its way,” said Ms Burk’s partner, Tarquin Gray.

‘The system just went backwards.’

“It’s very complex and it gets more complex when it comes to young people committing crimes,” Mr. Stevens said.
