Woolworths selling 820g Cadbury Favourites for $32 to shock of many Aussies on Reddit

Cadbury’s Favorites appears to be the latest casualty of Australia’s rampant inflation, and Woolworths is now selling the goodies for a whopping $32.

The price of the box of chocolates, which recently removed two popular treats, has angered Australians, who say it is ‘ridiculous’. Others joked that you need Afterpay to finance the purchase.

Some said the price increase of the 820g box was just “in time for Mother’s Day.”

Favorite boxes are sold in different sizes depending on the retailer, making it more difficult for customers to compare prices.

However, the $32 box works out to a whopping $3.90 per 100 grams, while the ‘regular’ box costs $2.12 per 100 grams.

It’s the latest in a long line of beloved Aussie products whose prices have increased in recent months, including the Coles Mud Cake, Ritz Crackers and Kettle Chips.

“This is ridiculous, I am considering protesting for a week with no sugar and no chocolate,” one person wrote online in response to the price hike.

A photo of a supermarket in Sydney was shared to Reddit, showing a large display of the chocolate treats with the hefty price tag.

Just in time for Mother’s Day over the weekend. I’m sure it’s a coincidence, right?’ one person wrote.

“Jesus, I need to start thinking about gifts for casual acquaintances,” another wrote.

“Now with Afterpay,” one said, while another added “in four easy installments.”

“Don’t worry, they’ll be half price $16 next week,” added another.

“Better buy the full-size bars on sale for 90 cents each,” one wrote.

“It’s even more expensive if you factor in throwing all the Moros in the trash,” one commented.

“Now that’s just taking the p***,” said another.

It comes after chocolate aficionados were devastated after Cadbury ditched two of its most popular flavors in the Favorites selection while also shrinking the size of the box.

Both the Dream and Flake bars are gone, replaced by a Caramilk and bite-sized Twirl.

The $32 boxes appeared to be “older stock” as the original line of treats was printed on the box.

The size of the smaller box has also shrunk from 570g to just 520g – with many online describing it as the ‘latest example of shrink inflation’.

After the new lookbox was spotted by an eagle-eyed shopper, many complained about the new options, while others said they were “much better.”

“Shrinkflation has reached Favorites. Dream and Flake has now been replaced by Caramilk and Twirl,” an Australian shared on Reddit.

‘Twirl is just a more structurally responsible version of Flake. Definitely an improvement in my opinion,” one wrote.

“But those mini Flakes are the perfect size to crush over a bowl of ice cream,” replied another.

“Flake has a better texture. Twirl just doesn’t strike the same way. But I’m more disappointed to lose Dream,” said a third.

A fourth complained “replacing Dream for Caramilk.”

‘Is this really what we wanted? If they actually base this on what are statistically the most popular chocolates, great, but! Show me the data, Cadbury!’ said another.

One person who claimed to work in the chocolate industry said that “dream is by far the lowest quality white chocolate.”

Twirl replacing Flake is fine, but not a dream?? That’s like my favorite… (Caramilk is not a substitute for Dream),’ added another.

“First they took the Bounty away and I didn’t say anything. Then they took away the Dream and Flake and I still didn’t say anything. But if the b*****ds hit the Turkish Delight, I’ll write a strongly worded email to Carbury!’

Cadbury’s parent company, Mondelez International, said it regularly reviews chocolates to “make sure the box reflects Australia’s favorite flavours.”

“Caramilk and Twirl are among our most popular products and rightly deserve their place in the Cadbury Favorites lineup,” said Alex Blair, Mondelez’s Corporate and Government Affairs Manager.

“Dream and Flake fans need not fear – both remain widely available in bar and share-bag formats.”
