Woolworths EFTPOS outage: Customers told to pay cash only in stores across Australia

Woolworths stores across Australia have been hit by EFTPOS outages – signs have been put up asking customers to pay cash only.

Shoppers reported on Friday that EFTPOS machines were not functioning at the Mawson, ACT supermarket; Pakenham Marketplace, Victoria, Sunnybank Hills and Pittsworth, Queensland and several stores in the south and west of Sydney.

Seven News reported that between 10 and 20 stores in several states were affected.

It is understood the outages were caused by internet issues, with most affected stores now back online.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience with an IT outage affecting EFTPOS in a small number of stores,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

‘Shops remained open and cash could still be used. The cause has been identified and EFTPOS is being restored.”

‘Once again we thank everyone for their patience this morning.’

One shopper took to

“We temporarily (sic) have no EFPOS (sic) because there is no internet,” the sign read.

‘Cash only. Sorry for the inconvenience.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths for comment.
