Woolworths Australia has reversed controversial changes to its Everyday Extras subscription program after it was criticized by shoppers.
In June, the major retailer announced that the 10 percent ‘one-off monthly’ discount for subscribers would be removed from July 1 for all online orders.
But thousands of shoppers complained, with many posting angry messages on social media claiming they were only happy to pay the $7 per month fee because of the discount and that just having access to it ‘in-store’ wasn’t good enough.
And it appears Woolworth’s management has listened. A spokesperson confirmed that the discount would be reinstated for eligible Extra subscribers on November 1.

“After listening carefully to customer feedback, we heard that our Everyday Extra subscribers would like the option to redeem their monthly discount in-store or online,” the spokesperson said.
“As a result, from November 1, we will be reinstating the ability for our Everyday Extra subscribers to redeem their monthly 10 percent discount online when shopping at Woolworths and BIG W.”
The good news was shared in online budget groups, with one woman posting a screenshot of the conversation confirming the change.
The mum seemed particularly happy that Big W orders would be available again, as her nearest is a ’20 hour round trip’, leaving online as the only convenient option.
Other parents were also relieved.
‘Thank God! I have three young boys and am trying to avoid my big shopping trips to the store,” said one mother.
But others said Woolworths lost sales forever when they scrapped the online discount.
‘Too late, I have now transferred my $300 a week to Aldi. WW should have listened to our feedback from the moment they said they were discontinuing online use.”
‘Then I’ll sign up again! I canceled because it was too hard to do my big shop with my five-month-old son in tow!” added another.
The spokesperson added: ‘We thank our customers for their feedback and hope this change will make it easier for our Everyday Extra subscribers to unlock even more value this Christmas and into the year ahead. Everyday Extra subscribers can also redeem their discount on Everyday Rewards ‘Member Price’ products to generate even more savings at checkout.”
Daily Mail Australia understands that users can save just $100 at each store with the discount.
